Volunteers of the Year

YMCA volunteers bring their expertise to almost all areas of the Y. Though their roles are as varied as supporting community programs, greeting members and participants, coaching and watching over children, each has one thing in common - commitment to the YMCA of the Palms. We are grateful to each and every volunteer who donates their time, energy and talents.

This year, we have selected a group of outstanding volunteers who give of themselves to make a difference in our community.

2010 Volunteers of the Year

Pioneer Preeminent Award: Rotary Intenational District 6960

Rotary International District 6960 is this year’s recipient of the YMCA of the Palms Pioneer Preeminent Award. This award is presented to volunteers who demonstrate energetic leadership, dedication and generosity in providing and garnering resources to support the YMCA. The many Rotary clubs within Rotary District 6960 have generously supported the YMCA’s Project Graduation event, which would not be possible without their direct support. Their mission and values align perfectly with those of the YMCA and together we build a stronger tomorrow.

Bonita Springs YMCA Volunteer of the Year: Dennis Church

Dennis Church has diligently provided both his time and his talent to the Bonita Springs YMCA, starting in the initial planning for the Y, through construction, and in 2010, in a leadership role on the Bonita Springs strategic planning task force. Dennis has been a leader in the Florida development industry for the past 20 years and has been the creative force behind many large scale master-planned communities, commercial ventures and environmental restoration components integral to responsible community design. He has helped shape our community and is an integral part of helping to build a brighter future.

Greater Naples YMCA Volunteer of the Year: William Burke

William Burke’s dedication and leadership to the YMCA of the Palms has been invaluable this past year. As chair of the Greater Naples Board, he worked to strengthen and expand the board and in turn, their advocacy for and support of the Greater Naples YMCA. He has graciously accepted to be the Chair of the Board of Trustees for this coming year. His amazing drive and leadership have helped guide the Y and will continue for years to come.

Corporate YMCA Volunteer of the Year: Michael Wynn

Michel Wynn is a respected member of the community and a tireless advocate for the YMCA. In 2010, Michael chaired the Bonita Springs strategic planning task force, which helped in providing a roadmap for the Y’s future. He has helped deepen the relationship between the YMCA and Florida Gulf Coast University, helping the Y to connect with the Lutgert College of Business and promoting the Y as a resource for individual and class projects. A family man and a business man, he is helping to shape the future of the YMCA.
